How a tarot birth card is calculated
Add the month, the day and the year of your birth as whole numbers. For someone born on 10 August 1990 that is 8 + 10 + 1990, which comes to 2008. If the total is larger than 22, add its digits together and repeat until it is 22 or less: 2008 becomes 2 + 0 + 0 + 8 = 10. The number you land on is your card's number in the major arcana — in this case the Wheel of Fortune.
One edge deserves a word. The major arcana runs from 0 to 21, and a total can reduce to exactly 22, which has no card of its own. By long convention 22 folds back to 0, the Fool — the traveller who stands outside the sequence and walks through all of it. So a 22 is not a gap in the method. It is the Fool arriving by the back door.
Why the birth card is read differently from a drawn card
A card drawn in a reading answers a question on a particular day and is gone by the next one. A birth card does not answer anything. It describes a lifelong tendency — the lesson a person returns to, the strength they lean on, the trap they fall into in familiar ways. Readers treat it less like a verdict and more like a theme.
