Three-Card Spread

Three cards left to right show movement that a single card cannot. Past–present–future is the best known arrangement, but situation–action–outcome works just as well. Decide which one you are using before you shuffle.

Best for

A decision in front of you, or the question “how did I get here and where is this going?”

How to lay it

  1. Choose what the three positions mean first: past–present–future, or situation–action–outcome.
  2. Hold the question in mind while you shuffle.
  3. Lay three cards left to right, then turn them over together.
  4. Read each position once, then read all three again as a single sentence.

What each position means

First — past / situation
The background that produced the current moment. Something already behind you that is still shaping things.
Second — present / action
What is actually happening, or the choice in your hands right now. This is the position you have the most power over.
Third — future / outcome
Where the current direction leads. Read it as the extension of today's momentum rather than a fixed ending.

One thing while reading

Don't answer the three cards separately — join them into one sentence: “given this, doing that, it moves here.” If the sentence won't form, the question was too broad.

Start a reading with your own question

Write your question and pick three cards from the full 78. The first reading works without signing up.
